What is referred to as "union-busting"?

Union-busting refers to the actions taken by employers to prevent workers from forming or joining labor unions. These actions can include various tactics such as intimidation, misinformation, harassment, and legal maneuvering aimed at undermining union organization efforts. The goal of these employer actions is to maintain control over the workplace and minimize the influence of collective bargaining on terms of employment, such as wages, benefits, and working conditions.

In contrast, efforts by workers to form unions focus on collective action aimed at securing better work conditions and rights through solidarity and organization. Negotiations between unions and employers are a standard part of the labor relations process once a union has been established, and the process of enhancing union power involves strengthening the union's ability to advocate for its members, which is quite the opposite of union-busting tactics.
